b2evolution is a powerful blog tool you can install on your own website.

b2evolution is a powerful blog tool you can install on your own website. It includes all the features of traditional blog tools, and extends them with evolved features such as file and photo management, advanced skinning, multiple blogs support as well as detailed user permissions.

Not to mention third party plug-ins! Plus, it's free, open-source (GPL), it runs on virtually any webserver featuring PHP+MySQL and it's available in many languages

b2evolution is a multi-lingual, multi-user, multi-blog publishing system written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database. It is distributed under the GNU General Public License and is available without charge. François Planque forked b2evolution from version 0.6.1 of b2\cafelog in 2003. Another popular fork of b2 is WordPress.

b2evolution is focused on ease of installation and feature richness. It can easily be installed on almost any LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) host in a matter of minutes. With the latest release, no configuration file editing is necessary, as all configuration is handled through the installer or administrative back-end.

One of the main differentiating features of b2evolution is its ability to manage multiple blogs under a single installation.

Features in current releases include: community-wide spam filters, in which many b2evolution sites aggregate and "tag" spammer IPs into a central blacklist for the benefit of all b2evolution blogs; a fully skinnable interface; localization into a dozen language packs; and a fully exposed API for plugin developers to add new functionality.

Several popular plugins have been developed for b2evolution. These include text format extensions enabling Textile, Auto-P, Greymatter, BB code, Texturize, LaTeX, and graphic smilies. Also, plugins which facilitates full integration with third party tools such as Gallery 2, YouTube and digg are available.

Version Numbers
Version numbers mostly reflect how much change the underlying code has undergone since the previous releases. See Roadmap & Unified Process. Version numbers do not really reflect how many new features may or may not be available. Please refer to the following table for more information about each release.

Stability

We use the following indicators:
  • Alpha: Consider it as a demo release. Do not run on production.
  • Beta: The version is usable. Only run on production if you're ready to apply PHP patches by hand. Occasionnally, a beta may prove stable and not require any patching at all. ;)
  • Release Candidate (RC): There may be remaining minor bugs but nothing bad. It is safe to run on production.
  • No special label: This is considered a stable release.
We do our best to release the most stable possible versions. However, no one is getting paid for doing Quality Assurance, so problems may arise after release time.

The level of stability for each version will be reported in the table below. Look for the green checks
