4MLinux is a lightweight distribution made for both the 32 bit and 64 bit architectures.
It is named "4MLinux" since it has 4 main components of the OS. Maintenance (it can be used a rescue Live CD), Multimedia (There is inbuilt support for almost every multimedia format), Miniserver (It comes with a 64-bit server is included running LAMP suite), and Mystery (Includes a collection of classic Linux games).
The distribution is developed in Poland, and was first released in 2010.
The distribution does not include a package manager, and uses JWM (Joe's Window Manager) as it's default window manager. It also comes with Conky preinstalled.
When installing programs with the distribution, the distribution will retrieve the Windows version rather than the Linux version due to it coming pre-installed with Wine (A compatibility layer for Windows applications), and not having any package manager. The distribution is geared towards people who prefer a lightweight distribution. There is a version of the distribution called the "4MLinux Game Edition" which provides 90s games natively such as Doom, and Hexen.
The distribution comes in two different version, 4MServer, and 4MLinux. 4MLinux requires 128 MB of RAM when installed to an HDD, and 1024 MB of RAM when being used as a live CD/USB. Whereas, 4MServer requires 256 MB of RAM when installed to an HDD, and 2048 MB of RAM when being used as a live CD/USB.
The status of the 4MLinux 29.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Edit your documents with LibreOffice 6.2.4.2 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.2, GIMP 2.10.10, Gnumeric 1.12.44), share your files using DropBox 73.4.118, surf the Internet with Firefox 66.0.5 and Chromium 74.0.3729.108, send emails via Thunderbird 60.7.0, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 3.10.1, watch your favorite videos with VLC 3.0.6 and mpv 0.29.1, play games powered by Mesa 18.3.1 and Wine 4.7. 4MLinux is a minimalist distribution, which has been built from scratch, with the light touch offered by the JWM window manager, the possibility of enabling or not 3D effects and where we find elements common to such distros as Conky or the Wbar bar (with ON / OFF mode from the menu) that functions as an application launcher.
ReplyDelete@Giampaolo Rossi.- The intention of the developers of this system is to focus on 4 main objectives: games, multimedia aspect, system maintenance and also serve as a mini server.
