Just like MX Linux provides its ‘MX-Tools’ to assist the User in detailed system settings AVL-MXE provides some simple ‘AVL-MXE’ Utilities to help with various settings that pertain both to setting up an effective Multimedia Workstation and to keeping things working reliably. CPU Governor Utility:
The CPU Governor Utility found in the ‘Settings’ Menu is a simple script to change the running CPU Governor, typically for Audio and Video work you will want the ‘Performance’ governor enabled and for that reason AVL-MXE comes with the Performance governor enabled by default. At other times you may want to save battery power or keep your CPU heat down with the ‘ondemand’ or ‘powersave’ governors. An important one-time thing that needs to be done before using the CPU Governor is for ‘cpufreq-set’ permissions to be set so that the User can change the settings. This needs setting in a Terminal with the following command: sudo chmod +s /usr/bin/cpufreq-set
Remover: Users have differing needs and philosophies about whether they want to use purely Open-Source Software or offerings from commercial vendors. For those who don’t want the commercial software demo products in their install this script will use ‘dpkg’ to remove all of the demos.

Realtime Quick Config Scan:
This is not a native AVL-MXE utility but is included for convenience as a one-step way to evaluate the fitness of the system setup for low-latency Audio work. The scan identifies the presence of key settings and configuration files pertaining to Audio performance, it should be noted AVL-MXE meets the most vital criteria of the scan out of the box.
System Editor:
The System Editor is only recommended for experienced Debian Linux Users and collects several important system-wide configuration files together in one dialog to facilitate hand-editing as Root. If you don’t know the purposes of these files or the changes that should be made to them it is strongly suggested to leave them with their default values.
Wine Audio Utils:
AVL-MXE provides the User with the Windows compatibility layer known as ‘Wine-Staging’ with the primary intended goal of : (a) Allowing Windows Audio applications to connect with the JACK Audio server via ‘WineASIO’ and (b) Supporting VST Audio Plugins from the Windows platform to run in Linux DAW hosts by using a combination of Wine-Staging and the ‘yabridge’ VST bridging utility. This dialog enables the User to give Wine-Staging it’s first configuration run, launch WineASIO for either 32bit or 64bit Windows Audio applications and to set the Inputs and Outputs available to WineASIO.
