Guides and tutorials for Manjaro: Easy Manjaro Virtual Machines With Gnome Boxes.

There are several ways depending on what you want from that VM. The easiest is to install VirtualBox and simply install using any media as if you would install on physical hardware but you can omit the step of burning to a USB pen drive as most VM software can read directly the ISO image file of the installation media.

VirtualBox is the easiest way as it is one package and it's very graphical and easy to use, but if you want near bare metal performance then you need a more involved method using libvirt/kvm/qemu and although there are many different GUI clients some hide features and options to varying degrees and you must understand a minimum of how virtual devices work since there are no pretty settings nor sane defaults or VirtualBox guest additions to install on the virtualized environment.

To launch Gnome Boxes open the application and click the plus sign in the top left corner. From the pop-up box that appears, select "Download an operating system". In the search box, type "Manjaro", click "Next", and the latest ISO image will automatically download. For the best virtual machine experience, we recommend having at least 4GB of RAM.

Gnome boxes will automatically download the latest ISO image.

If you prefer, you can also explore virtualization options with Virt-manager or Virtualbox or Vmware.

  1. Manjaro is a big proponent of personalization. The official download page has numerous desktop environments you can choose from, with XFCE being the flagship download. Even if you end up with one you don't like, it's pretty easy to switch to a different one. We've even written guides for installing KDE on Manjaro, installing GNOME on Manjaro, and installing Cinnamon on Manjaro.

    1. If you prefer a simpler Arch Linux-style installer, you can always install Manjaro Architect Edition instead. This gives you much more customization, but requires more technical knowledge and familiarity with Linux. If you have any problems, our guide should point you in the right direction.
