Monomaxos is an Ubuntu-based distribution whose purpose is to provide a complete out-of-the-box functional Linux operating system.

Monomaxos is a Linux based operating system that started from user emcpn@yahoo.gr in Athens , Greece. It’s an Ubuntu (9.04) based system that provides full support for any kind of multimedia files and any kind of internet content just out of the box.

It can even be used as a stand-alone media center using the embedded XBMC media center. Contains large number of software packages and drivers for any kind of modern hardware that makes it really powerful operating system. It was actually build for use from amateur Greek users as a ‘’demonstration’’ Live DVD for the capabilities of Linux and Open source. After a lot of requests and considering the success of the Monomaxos Live DVD in many countries outside Greece an English edition of Monomaxos is out for international use.

Monomaxos Dimitris Papadatos has announced the release of Monomaxos 6.0, an Ubuntu-based distribution with out-of-the-box support for popular media formats and other user-friendly enhancements: "Monomaxos Greek Linux operating system 2011 version 6.0 (based on Ubuntu 11.04). This is the sixth release of Monomaxos localized in the Greek language that comes as a live DVD. It supports playback of every kind of multimedia material (including HD video) and any kind of Internet content out of the box. It can also be used for setting up a standalone media center. It contains LibreOffice 3.3 in the Greek language with enabled functional spell check. In this release a local Monomaxos repository is used; it includes software chosen by the fans of the project and all the latest ATI and NVIDIA graphic cards drivers."

MONOMAXOS Greek Linux Operating System 2010 VER5.0 (based on Ubuntu 10.04).This is the fifth edition of MONOMAXOS Linux Operating System localized for the Greek language that comes out as a Live DVD.Supports playback of every kind of multimedia material (including HD video) and any kind of internet content out of the box and and can also be used for setting up a stand alone Media Center (including XBMC Media Center).Contains Open Office suite (v3.2) in the Greek language with enabled functional spelling check (also English).A large variety of Open source software installed in this Live DVD provides solutions for all needs of the modern user and makes a powerful operating system for use in Desktop or Laptop PCs.

In this edition of Monomaxos is used for the first time the official Monomaxos repository that includes software chosen by the funs of the project.
