Installing Cent OS 5
a. You will presented with a screen similar to the following booting up Cent OS CD. Press Enter Key.
b. It's the testing screen. Press skip button to skip.
c. Press Next button to the following screen.
d. Select languages that you're likely to use during installation process.
e. Select keyboard langauge that your system would use. Select English and press Next button.
f. Once the message that enables drive initialization comes out, click yes.
g. Partition setting will be displayed on the screen. Select "Making User layout" Press Next button.
h. Partition creating will be displayed on the screen.
i. You can add partition that you want to partition more. Make partitons as described below.br>
You will then presented with a screen if you press create_new button.
- Mount - Enter new name of partiton.
- File System Types - Select ext3 or swap3 appropriatly to the partition.
- Capacity - Specify the capacity.
- Addition Capacity Option - Check as Fixed capacity.
- /root - Allocate 1024M(2G) as root capacity.
- /boot - Allocate 128M as boot capacity.
- /swap - Allocate double of memory(ram) capacity. Select Swap at the File system types.
- /home - Allocate 512M ~ 1024M(1G)
- /tmp - Allocate 2048M(2G) in case of installing oracle.
- /var - Allocate 2048(2G).
- /usr - Allocate 15360(15G) ~ 20480M(20G).
- /data - Allocte the remaining of the capacity.
- You can specify the capacity for yourself.
j. BootLoader Setting screen will be displyed on the screen. Press Next button.
k. The following explains how to entering user's IP and host name. Enter IP and host name correctly to the user's environment.
l. You will presented with a screen selecting the time by nations. After selecting time, press Next button.
m. It's root accout's password setting screen. Enter your own password.
n. The following screen is selecting package.
Desktop - Select gnome.
Server - Check Server.
(Usually select Server When installing Oracle.)
Check Now user setting, click next button.
o. You will be presented to the following screen like this of you press now user setting button.
Check Developing languages to install package lager and press Next button.
Server - Check Server.
(Usually select Server When installing Oracle.)
Check Now user setting, click next button.
o. You will be presented to the following screen like this of you press now user setting button.
Check Developing languages to install package lager and press Next button.
p.It's the screen that installs OS. Press Next button. After that, You will format each partition and start to install.
q. It's the install progress screen. After finishing all of installing process, reboot process will be starting.
r. User setting will be displyed on the screen.
s.Firewall setting will be displayed on the screen. Set deactivation.
t.Selinux setting will be displayed on the screen. Set deactivation.
u. Date, time setting will be displayed on the scteen. Set date and time correctly.
v. User account setting screen will be displyed on the screen. Enter the root account. After that, reboot at the sound card setting screen.
r. It's the install completion screen. After finishing installation, you can choose either graphical mode or terminal mode when you start to boot up.
vi /etc/inittab
# Run xdm in runlevel 5
x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon
Set either 3 or 5.
3 - Full multiuser mode :Terminal mode
5 - X11 :Graphical mode
